Hebrew Gematria Calculator
Enter a Hebrew word, name or verse and see it in all four classical methods at once. Vowel points and cantillation marks are ignored, final letters are handled correctly, and every total opens to show the arithmetic.
The Four Hebrew Methods
Hebrew gematria is not one system. The letters carry a fixed ladder of values, but there are several accepted ways of reading that ladder, and a serious calculation checks more than one.
Mispar Hechrachi
The standard, absolute value. Alef is 1, yod is 10, tav is 400, and a final letter keeps the value of its normal form.
Mispar Gadol
The large value. The five sofit letters continue the ladder as 500 to 900 instead of repeating.
Mispar Siduri
The ordinal value: simply the letter's position, alef 1 through tav 22.
Mispar Katan
The small value: each letter reduced to a single digit, so 300 becomes 3.
A Worked Example
Take אמת (emet, "truth"). Alef is 1, mem is 40, tav is 400. Added together that is 441, which reduces to 4+4+1 = 9. The word is built from the first, middle and last letters of the alphabet, and commentators have read that shape as truth spanning everything from beginning to end.
Now take חי (chai, "life"). Chet is 8 and yod is 10, giving 18. That single number is the reason gifts and donations in Jewish practice are so often made in multiples of eighteen.

Where the Final Letters Trip People Up
Five Hebrew letters change shape at the end of a word: kaf, mem, nun, pe and tsadi. In everyday reading the shape is cosmetic. In gematria it is a fork in the road. Under the standard method the final form is worth exactly what the ordinary form is worth, so a word ending in a final mem still counts 40. Under Mispar Gadol that same letter is worth 600, and the total jumps by 560.
Neither reading is a mistake. What is a mistake is switching between them halfway through a comparison, which is how most contradictory results online are produced. This calculator shows both at once so the difference stays visible.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Mispar Hechrachi and Mispar Gadol?
Mispar Hechrachi is the standard method: a final letter keeps the value of its ordinary form, so a final mem is still 40. Mispar Gadol continues the ladder instead, giving the five finals 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900.
Do vowel points change the value?
No. Nikkud marks the vowels but carries no numeric value, so the calculator strips them and counts only the consonantal letters.
Why do some words have the same value?
Two words sharing a total is the whole point of the practice. Classical commentators read such pairs as linked in meaning, which is why the sum, not the individual letters, is what gets discussed.
What is the value of the Tetragrammaton?
Yod, He, Vav, He gives 10 + 5 + 6 + 5 = 26 in the standard method, which is why 26 is treated as one of the central numbers in Hebrew gematria.
Can I paste a whole verse?
Yes. Spaces, punctuation, cantillation marks and digits are ignored, so a full verse totals correctly.
